They'll never keep their minds on God; they refuse to walk down my road...
They'll never get where they're going, never be able to sit down and rest....
They never got there because they never listened, never believed. (3:10, 11, 19)These descriptions are not merely about the Hebrews, they are about me. I do not keep my mind on God - I'm compelled to check my email, respond to a text, find security and purpose in something tangible, here and now. I refuse to walk down His road - I make my own plans, get irritated when they're interrupted, and feel justified raising up boundaries to protect them. I don't get where I'm going, I don't sit down and rest - I'm too busy looking for meaning, usefulness, importance, validation from any other source that will meet the demand within me. I never get "there" because I don't really listen, don't really believe - I just do the next Bible study, read the latest Christian book, and fill up with spiritual-sounding ideas and words but I do not inquire of God, wait for Him and move in believing response.
Today, please listen... (3:14)
Come, let’s shout praises to God,
raise the roof for the Rock who saved us!
Let’s march into his presence singing praises,
lifting the rafters with our hymns!
raise the roof for the Rock who saved us!
Let’s march into his presence singing praises,
lifting the rafters with our hymns!
And why? Because God is the best,
High King over all the gods.
In one hand he holds deep caves and caverns,
in the other hand grasps the high mountains.
He made Ocean—he owns it!
His hands sculpted Earth!
High King over all the gods.
In one hand he holds deep caves and caverns,
in the other hand grasps the high mountains.
He made Ocean—he owns it!
His hands sculpted Earth!
So come, let us worship: bow before him,
on your knees before God, who made us!
Oh yes, he’s our God,
and we’re the people he pastures, the flock he feeds.
on your knees before God, who made us!
Oh yes, he’s our God,
and we’re the people he pastures, the flock he feeds.
Drop everything and listen, listen as he speaks:
“Don’t turn a deaf ear as in the Bitter Uprising,
As on the day of the Wilderness Test,
when your ancestors turned and put me to the test.
For forty years they watched me at work among them,
as over and over they tried my patience.
And I was provoked—oh, was I provoked!
‘Can’t they keep their minds on God for five minutes?
Do they simply refuse to walk down my road?’
Exasperated, I exploded,
‘They’ll never get where they’re headed, never be able to sit down and rest.’”

Refreshing
Not your honesty
But your humility
Just wrote a post for my blog for tomorrow about how very few people are aware of how they come across. You are NOT one of them.
So refreshing.
Not your sin
But your surrender
